- What is a "materials allowance" line, and why not itemize every material?
- An allowance is a budgeted amount for materials the client will select later — fixtures, finishes — standard on larger jobs where exact choices aren’t made yet. Itemize instead once selections are final.
- Can I bill a large project in phases instead of one lump sum?
- Yes — keep this as one estimate for the client to approve, then invoice in stages once it’s accepted: for example on demolition/framing complete, then again at close-out.
- Can I turn this into a general contractor invoice once the client approves it?
- Yes — convert the accepted estimate into an invoice in one step, or start directly from the general contractor invoice template.
