Terms
Terms of service
Last updated
These terms cover your use of stiffproof.com and everything on it (“StiffProof”, “we”, “us”). By using StiffProof you agree to them, and to our privacy policy. If you use StiffProof for a business, you agree to them on that business’s behalf.
The service
StiffProof is a tool for making invoices, estimates, quotes, receipts and credit notes. The generator is free and works without an account. An account is optional: signing in keeps a copy of your documents with us so you can reach them later.
Paid plans and online invoice payments are not available yet. Nothing on StiffProof charges you today, and nothing ever will without you completing a checkout yourself.
Online payments
Online invoice payments through Stripe are being built and are not switched on yet. When they are, these terms apply to them:
- Your clients’ payments go into your own Stripe account, which you open with Stripe under your own agreement with Stripe. StiffProof is not the merchant, never holds your money, and does not decide refunds or disputes — those are between you, your client and Stripe.
- You are responsible for what you sell. Stripe’s own rules, including its list of restricted businesses, apply to you, and Stripe decides whether it can support your business.
- For each online payment we take a platform fee, shown before you set up payments and always written as Stripe’s rate plus ours. It comes out of the payment before it reaches your Stripe balance; your client pays the invoice amount. If a payment is refunded, or a dispute is lost, we refund our fee in proportion.
- Your clients pay on a page we host, in Stripe’s payment form, by card or from their bank account. The amount is what the invoice still asks for — a client can’t pay more than that online — or, if you allow part-payments, any part of it from $1.00. You can turn bank payments off, or turn online payment off for any one invoice.
- An invoice shows an online payment only once Stripe confirms it. A bank payment shows as on its way until it clears, usually about 4 business days, and it can still fail until then.
- You can turn online payments off at any time on your account page. Your Stripe account stays yours, with its balance and its own login; we don’t close it and can’t delete it.
If you pay an invoice through StiffProof, you are paying the business that sent it, through Stripe. StiffProof isn’t part of that sale and can’t refund you: for a refund, or a problem with what you bought, contact the business that sent the invoice.
Our commitments to you
- The generator stays free, with no signup, no document caps, no watermark and no ads.
- We never move a feature you already have for free behind a paywall.
- Any paid plan is one flat price — never charged per invoice, per client or per document.
- Export always works: your documents as JSON, CSV and PDF, in one click, free included.
- If paid plans launch, cancelling will be self-serve, and existing subscribers won’t see their price change mid-cycle.
Your account
You sign in with Google or a one-time code sent to your email address, so your account is only as secure as that inbox or Google account — keep them secure. You are responsible for what happens under your account. You can delete it yourself at any time from your account page.
Your documents are yours
You own what you put into StiffProof — your business details, your clients’ details, your line items and the documents you make. We claim no ownership of them. You give us only the permission we need to store, process and display them to run the service for you, and that permission ends when you delete them or your account.
You are responsible for having the right to use the information you enter, including your clients’ details, and for handling it lawfully.
Without an account, your documents exist only in your browser. We never receive them and can’t recover them if your browser’s data is cleared or lost — export anything you want to keep.
Emails we send for you
With an account, you can have StiffProof email a document, or a payment reminder for an unpaid invoice, to your client. Each email goes to the one address on the document, is sent from our domain on your behalf, and replies go to you.
If you turn on automatic payment reminders, we email your client on the days you choose without asking you each time, until the invoice is paid or void or you turn them off — for your whole account or for one invoice. Automatic reminders follow the same limits as the ones you send yourself. Turn them on only for clients who expect to hear from you about what they owe; you are responsible for the emails sent in your name.
Acceptable use
Don’t use StiffProof to:
- Make fake or misleading documents — an invoice, estimate or receipt for a transaction that didn’t happen, a receipt for a payment that wasn’t made, or a document that alters one issued by someone else.
- Impersonate another person or business, or issue documents in their name.
- Commit fraud, evade taxes, launder money or break any other law.
- Disrupt the service — including overloading it with automated requests, getting around rate limits, probing it for vulnerabilities without permission, or using the sign-in form, document sending or payment reminders to send unwanted email.
We may suspend or delete accounts that break these rules.
What you are responsible for
StiffProof calculates totals, taxes and discounts from the figures you enter, but the documents are yours to check. You are responsible for their accuracy and for meeting the invoicing, tax and record-keeping rules that apply to your business, which vary by place and trade. StiffProof does not give tax, legal or accounting advice.
StiffProof is not a party to any agreement between you and your clients. We can’t guarantee that you will be paid, and we aren’t responsible for disputes over the work or amounts a document describes.
What belongs to us
The StiffProof name, logo, website, software and designs belong to us. You may freely use the documents you create, and the blank templates we offer for download, for your own business — that is what they are for. Please don’t copy or resell the site or software itself.
Signing in with Google is also subject to Google’s own terms.
Ending your use
You can stop using StiffProof whenever you like, and delete your account at any time. We may suspend access for a breach of these terms. If we ever shut StiffProof down, we will give account holders reasonable advance notice and keep export working so you can take your documents with you.
Disclaimers
StiffProof is provided “as is” and “as available”. We work to keep it accurate and running, but to the fullest extent the law allows we make no warranties, express or implied — including that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, StiffProof is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or unpaid invoices, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to StiffProof is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US$50.
Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have that the law says can’t be limited.
Changes to these terms
When these terms change, the date at the top changes with it. If a change is significant, we will say so on the site before it takes effect. Using StiffProof after a change takes effect means you accept the new terms. No change will move a feature you already have for free behind a paywall.
